Ikarus

Brand Ikarus has been the largest in all of Europe from the beginning of the seventies to late eighties, and today it is just a small company that manufactures buses. It was founded in 1895 and was a coach-forging workshop in Budapest. The company has become a solid company in the late sixties after the commissioning of the plant located in Szekesfehervar. This giant had annual capacity of fifteen thousand buses! It was built specifically to manufacture two hundredth series models. These buses are used in the CMEA countries, Algeria and Mozambique, Tanzania and Africa. Some models were produced for Germany and for Nordic countries, and a little later the production of buses of this brand was aimed at the US and Canada. In addition the brand was introduced in Indonesia and North Korea, in Cuba and the USSR.

Since the late nineties to 2006 Ikarus was part of the Irisbus holding, and in 2003 the company located in SÑ‘keshfehervare stopped production.
